12TH FAIL surprises, TEJAS dismal at Box office |
Day 1 box office receipts for the 12th Fail: Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Vikrant Massey`s movie comes as a surprise and brings in Rs 1.1 crore. Vidhu Vinod Chopra`s new film has turned out to be a surprise, despite everyone expecting Kangana Ranaut`s “Tejas” to comfortably grab the lead last Friday. On Oct 27, Tejas, an aerial action film starring Kangana Ranaut, and the inspirational drama “12th Fail”, which stars Vikrant Massey as an IPS candidate, were launched in theatres. Although it was anticipated that the more well-known “Tejas” would easily surpass “12th Fail”, there isn`t much of a difference between the two movies. According to an industry tracker, “12th Fail” helmed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, made Rs 1.1 crore on its first day. Overall, “12th Fail” occupancy in the Hindi-speaking market was 9.09%. In contrast, Vikrant Massey`s “Tejas”, which made Rs 1.25 crore on Friday and had a lower occupancy rate, was only Rs 15 lakh ahead of Kangana`s film. The movie is based on Anurag Pathak`s best-selling book of the same name, which takes inspiration from the difficulties faced by millions of applicants for the UPSC entrance exam. The main character of the movie, Manoj (Massey), fails his twelfth board test but doesn`t give up. He picks up his studies again and shows up for the UPSC, the hardest competitive exam. Actor Kamal Haasan expressed his appreciation for Vinod Chopra`s film, saying, "Thank you for making a film like this." It gives me hope again that filmmakers like me can boldly pursue their passions.
