`Indu Sarkar` featuring Kirti Kulhari, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Anupam Kher in pivotal roles, has been set in 1970s when the Emergency was announced in India by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Music composers Bappi Lahiri and Anu Malik have also collaborated for the first time to give music to the film. National Award winning filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar says  that `Indu Sarkar` has been scheduled for release on July 28. Bhandarkar has helmed movies like `Chandni Bar`, `Page 3` and `Fashion` among the few in the past. His movie `Traffic Signal` fetched him the coveted National Award from for best director. He was also awarded a Padma Shri in 2016. Madhur says his `Indu Sarkar` talks about Emergency to today`s generation who do not know much about the happenings during the period of 1975 to 1977. `Indu Sarkar` is definitely on Emergency. The director traveled back 42 years and the shoots were wrapped up in 41 day time. The film talks about how freedom of expression and civil liberties were suppressed during that time. He has made a whole set-up of Delhi of 1975, and also recreated Chandni Chowk. It`s a human story added with fiction. Yes, he admits that `Indu Sarkar` is different from his earlier movies. While his earlier films dwelt on current affairs `Indu Sarkar` rewinds to 1975. He has no issue about the Censor Board though.
