Bollywood has unleashed several action-dramas to mark the Independence Day of India on 15th August. This year is special as it is the 75th Independence Day, starting a whole year of celebrations. Here`s a review of the Dharma productions `Shershaah`. It is a biopic on martyr Captain Vikram Batra. A hardcore patriot of the Indian Army was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India`s highest award for bravery on the battlefield, after the 1999 Kargil War with Pakistan. The movie begins with an insight into Vikram`s character with a powerful message he delivers to his father saying `nobody can take away what belongs to him,` . The film narrated is by his brother Vishal Batra. A predictable flick, yet it is rousing and fairly entertaining portrayal of the war hero. The narrative is fresh. There are the expected emotional and gut-wrenching moments plugged into the plot. Vikram wins over the hearts of the local populace in Kashmir and the confidence of his seniors and colleagues. The action-packed scenes, with fast razor-sharp edits, stylistic visuals, and extensive use of special effects, lack the tension of a war film though. Sidharth Malhotra delivers a charming and effective performance including his romance with Kiara Advani. With her natural looks and consistent accent, Kiara performs ably. She matches Sidharth`s histrionics and together they make a striking pair. Vishnuvardhan`s direction and Kamaljeet Negi`s cinematography are strikingly brilliant. The camera movements are smooth and extremely focused. The film is dedicated to the 527 martyrs and is an earnest portrayal.
