STUDENT OF THE YEAR 2 box office

Karan Johar`s much hyped romantic drama Student of the Year 2 opened in Indian theatres on Friday among much fanfare but lacks the appreciation for a solid jump. Directed by Punit Malhotra, the film has earned 12.06 cr on its opening day and 14.02 cr on saturday taking the total to Rs 26.08 crore after 2 days. In Hindi films earning over Rs. 10 crore on the opening day, Student Of The Year 2 stands fifth after Kalank, Kesari, Gully Boy and Total Dhamaal. SOTY 2 is a sequel to the 2012 Karan Johar directorial Student of the Year which launched the careers of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra. The film stars Tiger Shroff in the leading role along with debutantes Tara Sutaria and Ananya Panday. Analysts say that the film has had tough competition from the ever growing Avengers: Endgame which is by far the most successful Hollywood movie in India and has crossed the Rs 300 crore mark, and the weekend with Indian Premier League Final keeping people away from the theatres. Student of the Year 2, has not received a positive response from critics. Most of its reviews are negative. “The running time is too long for what is, essentially, yet-another-buffed-up-version of `Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander` crossed with `Kuch Kuch Hota Hai`. Student of the Year of 2012, had a certain goofiness to it.
