Bollywood legend Dharmendra gone at 89; fondly remembered as ‘best human being’

Yet another Bollywood doyen and a legend Dharmendra is no more. He was 89 and just short of his 90th birthday on 8th December. He had been discharged only some days back from hospital and was said to be recuperating at home. Several Bollywood greats attended the funeral in Juhu on 24th November 2025. Dharmendra’s last work for the screen will be Sriram Raghavan's 'Ikkis' also starring Amitabh Bachchan's grandson Agastya Nanda and Jaideep Ahlawat. The film releases on 25th December 2025. Indian cinema mourns the loss of this 'He-Man of Bollywood' who dominated the celluloid in the 1970s through 1980s and 1990s. He played significant roles in 300 films. Filmmaker Karan Johar was emotional as he announced the sad demise of Dharmendra on social media platform. K Jo wrote quote "It is an end of an ERA….. a massive mega star… the embodiment of a HERO in mainstream cinema… incredibly handsome and the most enigmatic screen presence … he is and will always be a bonafide Legend of Indian Cinema…mostly he was the best human being… he was so loved by everyone in our industry.  And my heart says with respect, reverence and love…. Abhi Na jao chodke…. Ke dil abhi bhara nahi……OM SHANTI" end quote. There was an outpouring of fond messages and condolences literally from every major Bollywood star, producer, director and even set workers whose lives he lovingly touched. Dharmendra acted in Karan Johar's 2023 film 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' with Shabana Azmi, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh and Jaya Bachchan.
