Bollywood super duper star Salman Khan heaved a sigh of relief as the Bombay High Court on May 8 suspended the five-year sentence handed to him by a Sessions court earlier on May 7. Salman was convicted on May 6 on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the 2002 hit-and-run case in which one man had died and four were injured when Khan`s car ran over them sleeping on a pavement in suburban Bandra. Admitting Salman`s appeal, the Bombay High Court gave the order on the final day before it goes on vacation. The HC also directed Khan to surrender before the trial court forthwith and execute a bail bond of Rs 30,000 with one or two sureties of a like amount.The court will now hear the  matter on June 15 when it will give further directions regarding the hearing of the appeal. Thus, Salman Khan will remain out of jail, but will have to take permission whenever he needs to travel abroad. The HC also said that during the pendency of the hearing and final disposal of the appeal, the sentence would stand suspended.
