Movie on Emergency
Filmmaker and National Award-winning director Madhur Bhandarkar is known for movies with strong female characters. Now, he is well set to come up with another female-oriented movie. His next movie titled `Main, Indu`, is set during the 21 months of Emergency, when legal rights were restricted. Madhur says that the movie is not based on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi as the title suggests. Indu, in this movie has no reference to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who imposed Emergency on June 26, 1975 in India, or any real-life character. In fact, the protagonist is a poet who stammers and rebels against the system during these trying times. Madhur has already been working on this project for the last six months and wishes to start it in August 2016. Meanwhile he has met several political leaders, journalists, prominent authors as part of his preparation. Incidentally, this is the right time as today`s Central government comprises most of the victims of Emergency. The director can easily access necessary documents from government and other agencies. Yes, many of the senior victims are no longer available but certainly many of the youths of that era will be there.
