Now, SHORGUL to release July 1
BJP leader and MLA from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Som has demanded a ban on the screening of the Muzaffarnagar riot-themed film `Shorgul` in Uttar Pradesh. Som said his supporters are opposing the film’s release because its contents could disturb social harmony and create communal tension. While the film was initially scheduled to be released this Friday June 24 , it was postponed to July 1 on Thursday. There is a sense of apprehension in the exhibition sector pertaining to the showcasing of the film and a lot of cinema managers have expressed their reservation. Som, who was booked in connection with the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, said the depiction of his character in the film was wrong. “I have seen the film’s trailer. The content is wrong. The filmmaker has made it without consulting me and without understanding the situation. My character has been depicted in a poor light. I have never consumed liquor in my life, but in the film, my character drinks,” said Som.
