8,000 Guests, foreign dignitaries, cells at Modi's 3rd oath as Indian PM |
A resplendent President’s Palace in the heart of Delhi hosted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and 72 other members of the new coalition administration took the oath of office 9th of June, 2024. Thirty of them are Cabinet Ministers, five of them hold an independent charge, and 36 of them are Ministers of State. Modi’s council of Ministers symbolises his emphasis on continuity, youth and experience while also rewarding partners in the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government. Modi didn’t look his 73 years of age, as he received 7 Heads of State and Governments, and shook hands with each of the the 72 cabinet colleagues sworn in on a hot evening in Delhi. Modi with his third term has matched the record of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru who won elections in 1952, 1957, and 1962. Of the 72 Ministers sworn in, 30 are Cabinet rank 5 hold an independent charge, and 36 of them are Ministers of State. Celebrated actors Shah Rukh, Rajnikanth, Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher and Anil Kapoor were also in attendance, besides India’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani and his son, billionaires Gautam Adani and Anand Piramal. The ceremony was attended by leaders from the Indian Ocean region and neighboring countries. Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina; Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu; President Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka; Vice President of Seychelles, Ahmed Afif; Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth and his spouse Kobita Jugnauth; Prime Minister of Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda; and Prime Minister of Bhutan, Tshering Tobgay. Indian President Droupadi Murmu hosted a banquet for the leaders of neighbouring countries attending the swearing-in ceremony of Modi at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The president also wished Modi success as "he took on his high responsibility in the service of our people".
