Big win for Rahul Gandhi as Congress takes back Karnataka state from BJP |
The Indian National Congress Party (Congress) scored a landslide victory in the state assembly elections in Karnataka state in South India. In a hotly contested election earlier in the week, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that also ruled the state lost power. After counting of votes on Saturday 13 May 2023 , the Congress party won 135 seats and the BJP only 65. Now that D K Shivakumar, Siddaramaiah, and Kharge are thought to be the leading candidates for the Chief Minister position, anticipation over Congress` choice is mounting. At 9.30 PM IST on 13 May 2023, the Election Commission of India website gave the following results in counting of seats. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi congratulated his party`s leaders and supporters on the overwhelming victory. Rahul asserted that the grand old party "fought Karnataka war with love," and he promised that the party`s five promises will be kept in the southern state.
