The 18th Lok Sabha, lower house of Indian Parliament, elections are hotting up. Rahul Gandhi, the Congress politician and Wayanad Member of Parliament (MP), will now also run for elections from the Raebareli seat in Uttar Pradesh, the stronghold of the Nehru-Gandhi family that his mother, Sonia Gandhi, left empty. Gandhi family loyalist Kishori Lal Sharma has been fielded from Amethi, the seat that Rahul Gandhi lost to Union Minister Smriti Irani in the 2019 election. May 3 was the deadline for submitting nominations for the two seats. And the Congress party disclosed the names of the candidates, putting an end to the weeks-long conjecture on the party`s choice for the two seats. On May 20, Raebareli and Amethi will participate in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections` fifth phase. Rahul has already contested for the Lok Sabha elections from Wayanad seat he won in Kerala in 2019. Wayanad held its second phase of elections on 26th April.
