MEA responds to Qatar on death sentences to 8 ex Indian navy officers |
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, eight former navy officers who were being held in Doha received death sentences from the Court of First Instance in Qatar. The MEA conveyed its deep dismay at the ruling and is still anticipating the full verdict. "We have received preliminary information that the Court of First Instance in Qatar has delivered a verdict today in the case involving 8 Indian employees of Al Dahra company," the MEA stated in an official press release. We are startled beyond belief by the death penalty decision and are looking forward to the full ruling. We are diligently pursuing every legal option while maintaining in communication with the families and their attorneys." The MEA stressed the importance of this issue and its ongoing watchfulness. Since October 2022, these eight Indian nationals have been detained in Qatar on suspicion of spying on a submarine development.
