Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his top brass comprising National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 22 August 2023 for a nearly 3-day BRICS Summit. BRICS Heads of Government in the Summit include Brazil President, South African President, Chinese President, Russian President and Indian Prime Minister. An ambitious agenda for BRICS includes paving the way for an inclusive new multilateralism, bringing issues of Global South to developed nations and focusing on African development. It is possible that with the recent talks that spelled bringing down tensions along the border in Ladakh, PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping may meet. Meanwhile, the Indian Diaspora in South Africa, considered as one of the biggest concentrations especially in the region of Durban and also among the oldest Diaspora populations in the world, gave a rousing welcome to Prime Minister Modi on arrival at his hotel.
