Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered freedom fighter and India`s first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhai Patel on his 148th birth anniversary on 31st October 2023, saying Patel`s commitment to national integration continues to guide the citizens. Modi said Sardar Patel`s indomitable spirit, visionary statesmanship and the extraordinary dedication shaped the destiny of our nation. Modi attended a daredevil stunts event organised by Cenral Reserve Police Force`s (CRPF) women personnel at the Statue of Unity near Kevadia in Gujarat to commemorate Patel`s birth anniversary. Notably, the central force is formed following the visions of Sardar Patel, who is also considered as the founder of CRPF. Artises from villages along the India-China border also perfomed at the event. The Indian Prime Minister referred to how India was developing and protecting its legacy. Modi said India has replaced the symbol of slavery from the Navy flag, and irrelevant laws made during the period of slavery will be removed, Indian Penal Code will be replaced, and India Gate has a statue of freedom martyr Subhash Chandra Bose. Modi said there is no goal that India cannot achieve by working together. Modi recounted his last government`s nine years during which Kashmir was freed of Article 370, pulling down the wall between Kashmir and the country. Prime Minister Modi said Sardar Patel must be happy and blessing India. Modi said post Covid-19, many countries are struggling with the highest inflation in the last 40 years and global unemployment is increasing. But, India is creating records and has moved forward in decision-making, 135 million people have come out of the poverty line. Calling the current times as valuable for all Indians, Modi issued a warning that no one should indulge in any such act that harms India`s stability. Meanwhile, at an event in New Delhi, Indian Home Minister Amit Shah said that "India as it exists today is a result of Sardar Patel. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, the entire nation is united because of his incredible contribution. We would not be here today without the contribution and vision of Sardar Patel.” Sardar Patel, is known as the Iron Man of India. Shah urged all Indians to make a commitment to elevate their country to the top of the global rankings in every field by 2047, when it will celebrate the centennial of its independence. Shah flagged off the `Run for Unity` from the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in the nation`s capital. 7,700 people participated in the run, including central police personnel, sports celebrities, and sports enthusiasts. Attendees at the event included Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, Union Ministers Anurag Thakur, Meenakashi Lekhi, Nityanand Rai, Ajay Kumar Mishra, and Nisith Pramanik. Since 2014, October 31st has been observed by the central government as "Rashtriya Ekta Diwas," or National Unity Day, to promote and strengthen its commitment to upholding and enhancing the country`s unity, integrity, and security. Sardar Patel was born on October 31, 1875, in Nadiad, Gujarat. Over 550 princely states were merged into the Union of India thanks to the efforts of Sardar Patel, who served as the country`s first home minister and deputy prime minister. Events across the nation honor Sardar Patel`s contribution to the unification of India.
