Collaboration is geo-political mantra of COVID-19 era |
COVID-19 is an unparalleled catastrophe in the modern era that`s reshaping geo-politics, creating new paradigms in which the order of present and the future is cooperation and collaboration. This was the focus of the discussion on 4th May in a webinar conducted by The Foreign Correspondents` Club of South Asia. Panelists talked about the SOS sent out by India in the middle of April 2021 following the catastrophic second COVID-19 wave, a distinguished panel discussed an outpouring of medical assistance coming to India from 40 countries around the world.Moderated by foreign correspondents in India, the panel comprised H.E. Emmanuel Lenain, the French Ambassador to India, Manoj Joshi, a fellow at the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), a major think tank, and Shubhajit Roy, Associate Editor of The Indian Express. India has demonstrated a categorical shift in policy after 16 years of seeking and accepting aid during this crisis. However, experts while commending the shift as it was direly needed to save lives, said the bigger problem ahead was to stop the speed of the pandemic to rural areas that could turn into a calamity. Building and ramping up healthcare infrastructure was critical, it was agreed. At this juncture, India should use all means to source and manufacture and make Covid-19 vaccine widely affordable.
