AIADMK rules out taking back Sasikala |
Once a potent political force in Tamil Nadu politics, V K Sasikala, will not return to her AIADMK party. Sasikala is the erstwhile personal and political friend of the powerful late Chief Minister Jayalalitha. The current Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and DMK party supremo, Edappadi K Palaniswami put an end to all speculations that Sasikala may return to the party. After his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, Palaniswami addressed the media on 19th January 2021 and categorically stated that Sasikala was not part of the AIADMK and there was absolutely no chance of her joining the party. Denying the rumors that the BJP was putting pressure on the AIADMK to let Sasikala and the AMMK led by T T V Dhinakaran, into the party, he said the AIADMK was now functioning nicely. The party doesn`t need to accommodate anybody. Insisting that he discussed nothing but issues relating to the development of the State with both the Prime Minister and Home Minister Amit Shah, Palaniswami gave a long list of the projects to be inaugurated and to be launched. He had also invited PM Modi for the events related to those projects. However, BJP sources in Tamil Nadu however said that they were happy with the outcome of the talks. It is said that the AIADMK had told the BJP that it would like to contest 164 seats for the Assembly and not bothered as to who contests the rest of the 70 seats. It means the BJP can distribute the 70 seats among the rest of the allies. The AIADMK now hopes to romp home in the elections by enlightening the people about the various achievements of the government in the last four years and not by depending on other parties for votes.
