India wins women`s lawn bowls gold at C`wealth Games |
On the fifth day of the Commonwealth Games at Birmingham, Nayanmoni Saikia, Pinki, Lovely Choubey and Rupa Rani Tirkey scripted history as they beat South Africa in the women`s four lawn bowls final to win a gold medal. This is India`s first medal in the sport. They won the match 17-10. Lovely Choubey and Rupa Rani Tirkey hail from Ranchi in Jharkhand state. Choubey is presently posted in Jharkhand Police and Rani is the District Sports Officer of Ramgarh district in Jharkhand. Rani rolled the bowls wide in the final match attempt to level the score for India. Lawn Bowls Association President Madhukant Pathak expressed his happiness over the first-ever win in the Lawn Bowl sport.
