Smart Enforcement App for trucks in India |
India will now be able to reduce compliance logistics costs. The `Smart Enforcement App` will make enforcement mechanisms technology-driven. On average, a truck in India covers 50,000-60,000 km a year, compared to over 300 thousand km in advanced countries such as the United States. The lesser coverage is mainly due to delays and random stoppages for physical checking of vehicles and verification of documents etc. GST has helped improve the situation. But physical checks remain an impediment and drive costs and also lead to corruption. India`s Commerce Ministry`s Logistics Division will use the App for implementation of smart enforcement of rules and regulations to track road-based violations by trucks. The App was unveiled in the middle of June 2021. It can fetch data related to goods being carried on the truck from the existing Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) database, and the information related to the vehicle from the VAHAN database. The App includes features that keep records and helps reduce the ad-hoc implementation of these rules and regulations. The application would have the ability to integrate with all the sensors, Weigh in Motion, and cameras available with the state government or National Highway Authority to allow remote enforcement. Transport associations are fully supporting this initiative of the government. An effective enforcement not only prevents revenue loss but also accidents and makes Indian roads safer for trade and commuters.
