Taliban requests India to resume commercial flights |
The Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority under the Taliban has requested Indian aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to facilitate commercial passenger flights between the two countries. In a letter to DGCA, the Afghan Civil Authority has indicated that its national carriers Ariana Afghan Airline and Kam Air are keen to operate flights in line with bilateral air services pact between the two countries. India stopped commercial flights to and from Afghanistan after the Talibani fighters took over Kabul on August 15. National carrier Air India cancelled all its flights as Taliban seized the capital city. The Civil Aviation Authority of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in its letter has stated that the Kabul airport is now operational with "technical assistance" from Qatar. According to an Afghanistani news agency, one flight from New Delhi, Istanbul, and Tashkent each are scheduled to land at Kabul International Airport on Thursday, September 30. The news agency also reported that Pakistan and Iran are the only countries that are carrying out flights to and from Kabul Airport currently. However, there has been no response or clarification issued from the DCGA or the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in this regard.
