Vaishno Devi Yatra restarts 16 August |
One of the most pious pilgrimage treks for the Hindus, Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra, will resume from 16th of August, 5 months after being suspended as a precautionary measure due to COVID-19. The restart of the Yatra was announced by the Jammu and Kashmir administration on 13th August. The Shrine Board began preparations for the resumption of the Yatra months in advance. The temple premises are being regularly sanitised and all the statutory norms of COVID-19 are in place to welcome pilgrims. Strict guidelines have been set for the pilgrims visiting the shrine. A maximum of 500 pilgrims per day will be permitted in a graded manner from outside Jammu and Kashmir. Registration of pilgrims should be made only online to avoid any assembly of persons at entry counters. Employers and employees of businesses around the shrine have welcomed the decision. There is a request to the administration to allow more people to the shrine from outside Jammu & Kashmir if visitors can produce a COVID-19 negative certificate.
