Venice of the East - Kerala Alappuzha Heritage City |
Dreaming of a Venice-like getaway in India with its waterways and gondolas? Alappuzha is that one dream destination that fulfils one`s dreams. Known as `the Venice of the East`, Alappuzha is synonymous with golden sunsets, lush green waterways, gliding luxury houseboats and stunning beach sunsets. The good news is that an integrated destination development of Alappuzha as a heritage city is in full throttle to give a stunning makeover to the quaint port town. Recently, Tourism Minister Prahlad Patel highlighted the status of several tourism projects pertaining to Kerala in the parliament including the integrated destination development of Alappuzha Heritage city and the construction of a town square in Kerala had already been sanctioned during the year 2008 to 2009 for Rs.254.38 lakhs, which was completed. Alappuzha attracts Houseboat tourism which is the most popular activity in backwaters, with several large Kettuvallams or traditional rice boats being converted into floating hotels. Apart from Kettuvallams, large cruisers and yachts also operate. Being on board relaxing and enjoying the amenities of a five-star hotel one can get glimpses of the beautiful surroundings, experience the tranquil backwaters, listen to the blended melody of birds` chirps and splashes of water, amidst lush greenery.
