Sunny Deol Turns Emotional at ‘Batwara 1947’ Trailer Launch; Dharmendra’s Blessings Make Film Special

Bollywood superstar Sunny Deol welled up at the trailer launch of ‘Batwara 1947,' saying the film will be a hit, as it was blessed by his super-duper star father, Dharmendra, before the Bollywood doyen passed away in November 2025.

Sunny attended the trailer launch by director Rajkumar Santoshi. In attendance were Shabana Azmi, Abhimanyu Singh, Karan Deol, lyricist Javed Akhtar, writer Asghar Wajahat, and producer Aparna Purohit.

Santoshi said the day of India’s Independence on August 15, 1947, his father’s film ‘Shehnai’ was released, the only film that marked Bollywood history with that of India. A hit film with a hit song ‘Aana Meri Jaan Meri Jaan Sunday Ke Sunday’! Now, Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘Batwara 1947’ releases 14 August 2026.

Santoshi said ‘Batwara 1947’ has Sunny’s father, super-duper star Dharmendra’s blessings. Dharmendra was emotional about the film. 

Shabana Azmi said her last film was with Dharamendra, called ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,' in 2023. Since then, the next one is with Sunny and Sunny’s son Karan.
