Opposition questions timing of govt. move for Ayodhya |
After the central government submitted a writ petition in the Supreme Court of India on Tuesday, seeking permission to return land acquired around the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid site, the opposition has raised questions over the timing of such a move. The move has stoked speculations that this would finally pave way for the Ram Temple construction activities. Earlier, the apex court had ordered that the status quo be maintained with regard to the acquired land around the disputed site. The central government had acquired 67 acres of land around the disputed site in 1993. Chief Minister of Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, welcomed the Centre`s move. He said that we should get permission to use the undisputed land." BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav said that the Supreme Court should allow it as it`s the least that can be done in the face of the inordinate delay by the court. Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy said the "initial work" on the Ram temple could be started. "There is already a Ram Mandir standing on the on the Ram Janmabhoomi but it is in a tent. In a fresh plea, the Centre said, it had acquired 67 acres of land around 2.77 acres disputed Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid site.
