Cut in 265 international slots at Mumbai by Adani Airports
Most airlines have opposed Adani Airports splitting operations between Mumbai with Navi Mumbai Airports. Mumbai International Airport (MISL) run by Adani, has cut 265 out of 770 weekly international departure slots. Airlines are asked to split operations between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai Airport. These international departures will come into force at Terminal 2 from October 25. Forty-six airlines will be affected. Indigo will be hit with the largest reduction of 74 weekly departures. The airport has announced redevelopment of Terminal 1. After its closure, domestic flights will be shifted from T1. Redevelopment by MIAL will create space for 5 million additional domestic passengers a year at T2. International airline operators are opposed. Even Indian carriers operating international flights at Mumbai are resisting the move to split operations between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai International Airport. Airlines will have to operate from two airports for the same market and maintain separate operational arrangements and incur additional costs for staffing, ground handling, equipment, airport services and other infrastructure requirements at both locations. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has asked airlines to help develop a transition framework. Ground transport connectivity between two Mumbai airports is patchy and expensive for airlines and consumers.
