PM Narendra Modi to Attend G7 Summit in France (June 15–17, 2026); Talks to Focus on Conflicts and Trade

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron to attend the G7 Summit in France from 15th through 17th June 2026. The G7 summit’s focus will be conflicts on the ground and trade in the past months since the last summit.

French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot met with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in France to finalize the G7 and bilateral agenda during Modi’s upcoming visit.

India’s growing role in multilateral forums has been appreciated within and outside the G7. Modi’s participation at the summit is welcomed by G7 members. India has played an instrumental role in parleys between sides in both the Russia-Ukraine and US-Israel-Iran wars. Also appreciated are India’s recent FTAs with Europe and other major economies' contributions to the G7’s work, particularly against the backdrop of US trade differences with India and literally all other countries.

India and France are working closely together on the situation in the Middle East. At the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting, both sides agreed to work jointly to ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz. At the G7 foreign ministers' meeting, one session will focus on Iran and explore avenues to defuse tensions, the reopening of maritime routes, and the protection of freedom of navigation. While looking at the ongoing energy crisis, ministers also intend to discuss Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
