PIO card valid till 31 Dec 2025: must take OCI cards by then |
Indian Diaspora persons, Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), holding PIO cards have been given a chance to obtain OCI cards by 31 December 2025. PIO cards will become invalid then as the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has refused to entertain hand written cards - PIO cards - after that date. In an advisory issued by India’s Ministry of External Affairs on behalf of the Government, disseminated by all Embassies and Missions of India, PIO card holders have been informed that past 31 December 2025 they would have to obtain appropriate visa according to their foreign passports. Persons having a valid PIO card until 9 January 2025 have been asked to urgently try and obtain OCI card by applying through the nearest Indian Mission.
