Bollywood eyes China
Bollywood has already influenced Hollywood and America. Now, the Indian cine industry is eyeing China, the world`s second-largest movie market after Hollywood. Bollywood might overtake Hollywood by 2020. India is very keen to enter the Chinese market. Three of the top five grosser in the Chinese film market were in 2014 — Transformers: Age Of Extinction, X-Men: Days Of Future Past, and Captain America: Winter Soldier. Now, three big Indian films from 2014 are set to release in China soon. They are Shah Rukh Khan-starrer `Happy New Year` (HNY), `I` (director Shankar`s much-talked-about Tamil film) and Aamir Khan-starrer `PK`. `PK` is reportedly set to get 3,500 screens, and `HNY`, a whopping 5,000. So far, the main overseas markets for Indian films are USA, UK, the Gulf and Australia, apparently due to significant numbers of Indians settled there. China is still a non-traditional market presumably because of the lower number of Indians coupled with the language barrier. China has around 30,000 screens against 9,500 screens in India.
