India-EU FTA Likely by End of 2026, EU Chief Tells PM Modi at G7 Summit

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Évian, France, on June 17, 2026. 

During their exchange, discussions focused on the geopolitical situation and the need for heightened collaboration and trade between India and Europe. Leaders hoped for a lasting solution that has been announced so far by both the USA AND Iran to end the Middle East crisis.

The EU Commission president is said by officials to have conveyed to Prime Minister Modi that the two sides will focus their attention on dealing with outstanding issues and arrive at a final document on the FTA that could likely be signed by the end of 2026.
