India’s ruling political party BJP picks 45-year-old Bihar leader to be Working President
India’s ruling political party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has signalled a major shift in dealing with the country that boasts of the biggest youth population. Bihar state leader and minister, Nitin Nabin, 45, is the new working president and expected to be formally elected the president in January 2026. BJP’s parliamentary board on on 14th December 2025 notified the appointment of Bihar Minister and five-term state legislator Nitin Nabin as the party’s national working president, ending months of suspense. The party will endorse the election at its National Council meeting in April 2026. Current national president and Union Minister J.P. Nadda is currently on an extension. He is a young and industrious leader with rich organisational experience and has an impressive record as MLA as well as minister in Bihar for multiple terms. He has diligently worked to fulfil people’s aspirations. He is known for his humble nature and grounded working style. Nabin has a two decade old leadership history with the party during which he served as the president of the Bihar unit of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and later as its national general secretary. He won as a legislator in 2006 from Patna and has remained undefeated from Bankipore. BJP officials said Nabin’s appointment clearly outlines the party’s desire for a generational shift in its leadership. BJP’s ideologically associated institution, the RSS, has also endorsed the selection of Nabin. It is also evident that the BJP party leadership may see a shake-up. Nabin says on his agenda is to strengthen the party from the booth to the national level. We will be working to strengthen the BJP with an approach of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.
