Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin for the second time in 2026, but this time in Delhi on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit on 11th September 2026. 

Modi and Putin also visited Russia’s International Industrial Exhibition "INNOPROM India" for the first time as a mark of expanding trade and industrial ties. 

The two leaders focused on the possible outcome of the BRICS meeting, with a perspective on key regional and global issues of mutual interest, including the conflicts in West Asia and the Black Sea region. Modi reiterated India’s stand on dialogue and diplomacy to resolve conflicts and offered to assist in peace efforts. It is noteworthy that among more than 20 countries of the BRICS Plus platform now, in attendance are heads of government of Russia, China, South Africa and Iran. A joint communique by consensus will highlight a new era of overall cooperation between countries without pointedly taking an anti-stance in any conflict.  

Putin invited, and Modi accepted, to visit Russia for the 24th India-Russia Annual Summit.
