Bharat Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Dr Abiy Ahmed Ali, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, on the latter’s first visit to India, in New Delhi, on 12 September 2026, on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit.

Bilateral discussions focused on strengthening the bilateral strategic partnership across key sectors, including economic cooperation, defence and security partnership, and capacity building. Prime Minister Modi had made a historic visit to Addis Ababa in December 2025.

The two leaders agreed to cooperate on regional and international developments of mutual interest and to work closely in multilateral fora.
