Canada PM Mark Carney to Visit India in March for Major Energy and Business Deals
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will visit in the first week of March 2026 to set the stage for a big fillip to bilateral ties with the signing of deals on uranium, energy, minerals, and artificial intelligence. Indian diplomats and Canadian officials say ties that were marred during the term of precious Canadian PM Justin Trudeau will be more than overcome. Business is the focus to drive India-Canada relations. Canada desires to be India’s biggest partner in energy for India. Canadian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Tim Hodgson was in India for India Energy Week. Hodgson clarified Canada will never use energy for “coercion.” Canada has also committed to supplying critical minerals to India. This signals that the India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement negotiations will begin in March. During the March visit, Carney will sign agreements with India on nuclear energy, oil and gas, environment, AI, and quantum computing as well as deals on education and culture during his visit. But the uranium supply agreement will be a landmark with a 10-year USD 2.8-billion uranium supply agreement. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will visit Canada soon. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval will visit Ottawa in February 2026 for regular engagements between the two countries. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has had a productive conversation with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, focusing on strengthening India-Canada bilateral ties. Going back to normal ties implies strengthening economic partnership and high-level exchanges.
