Noida International Airport gets Aerodrome License from Indian authorities

The new Noida International Airport (NIA) at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh state of India has achieved another milestone to being commercial operations soon as it was granted an aerodrome license from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The license implies the airport meets all regulatory and mandatory requirements related to operational procedures, safety systems, infrastructure, navigation aids, and emergency response. The Noida airport has also received final security vetting for domestic passenger operations as well as domestic and international cargo operations. Together, the airport is accelerating to start commence operations. Now, the Noida International Airport plans to coordinate with all partners to plan the formal inauguration and commencement of commercial operations. In December 2024, a successful validation flight was operated by IndiGo using an Airbus A320 for the airport’s approach procedures, navigational aids, and air traffic control systems.

All major infrastructure required for operations is now complete, and essential concessions have been awarded across mobility services, ground handling, in-flight catering, aviation fuel, cargo, retail, food and beverage, and the airport hotel. Communications and navigation systems have been commissioned by the Airports Authority of India. IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express have confirmed operations from NIA. The airport is in discussions with other domestic and international carriers. NIA is directly connected to the six-lane Yamuna Expressway, offering swift access to Noida, Greater Noida, Delhi, Gurugram, and major cities of western Uttar Pradesh. Popular destinations including Agra, Mathura, and Vrindavan are reachable within two hours. Noida International Airport is being developed in four phases along with a dedicated cargo terminal. In its first phase of the airport, with one runway and one terminal, it will have the capacity to handle 12 million passengers annually. Upon completion of the fourth phase, the airport will be equipped to manage 70 million passengers per year, making it a major hub for the region.
