India–Oman Sign CEPA, PM Modi Conferred with Order of Oman
On 18th December 2025, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred yet another national honor; this time, His Majesty Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tarik presented the ‘Order of Oman’ award for his exceptional contribution to India-Oman ties and his visionary leadership. Modi’s visit to Oman gave a fillip to yet another ancient relationship, growing it into a valuable economic partnership with a strategic vision. A Joint Vision Document and four Memorandums of Understanding were signed, boosting economic diversification, trade, and maritime cooperation and strengthening the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The agreements also cover scientific research and innovation, skills development, and agriculture. The Oman visit was the final leg of his Middle East and Africa tour. Modi was received with warmth and respect. He also engaged with the Indian diaspora, underscoring strong people-to-people connections that sit at the heart of bilateral ties. His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said hosted a formal dinner at the Al Bustan Palace Hotel in Muscat. Analysts see the visit as a strategic pivot for India’s engagement in the Gulf. Oman acts as a gateway for broader regional cooperation, offering India access to new markets, logistics networks, and maritime collaborations. The two leaders welcomed the alignment between Oman Vision 2040 and India’s goal of becoming a developed nation, or Viksit Bharat, by 2047. Prime Minister Modi also addressed a large gathering of Indian community members in Muscat that included more than 700 students from various Indian schools. Modi said that the India-Oman partnership was making itself future-ready through AI collaboration, digital learning, innovation partnership, and entrepreneurship exchange. He called upon the youth to dream big, learn deep, and innovate boldly so that they can contribute meaningfully to humanity.
