Sharp fall in Indian students impacts Canadian universities
Reports suggest that a major downturn in Indian students going to Canada has negatively impacted Canadian institutions. A leading Indian daily reports that nearly 10,000 jobs may be lost in Canada for faculty and support workers. New federal laws have brought down applicants and enrolments for students due to a cap on international study permits. Certain provinces like Ontario attracted Indian students in large numbers due to businesses that offered job prospects post study. These provinces were also chosen by Indian students due to concertation of Indian Diaspora population that made it easier for students to settle while studying and offered better job prospects. For at least two or more decades colleges in certain cities and provinces did depend heavily on international students, and even specifically targeted Indian students. These colleges are reeling under the impact of new policy.
