Modi praises Indian Women Cricketers for winning World Cup 2025, tells them to be role models
An elated Indian Women’s Cricket Team, now World Cup 2025 champions, were hosted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, in Delhi on 5th November. Modi not only welcomed the team, some of who has met in the past. He lauded their mental toughness that ensured victory. Most importantly, Modi said the team members should serve as role models for schoolgirls and youth. He exhorted them to to back to the schools they attended and share their success and journey. Team was jubilant and excited to move from Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium to the pristine but high-security lanes of 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. Tens of millions of Indians both in country and the Diaspora globally has been watching each move of the winners that now will blaze the trail for upliftment of women in sports and empowerment in general. A remarkable 52-run win over South Africa in the Women’s ODI World Cup final finally brought the first ever winning trophy to Indian women in cricket. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and her team held the trophy and wore their medals proudly as they met Prime Minister Modi. The meeting included the support staff, and senior BCCI officials.
