Modi, Nitish sweep Bihar polls, NDA & allies win 202 of 243 seats
The 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections results have more than astounded pundits and politicians. Current Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar led-National Democratic Alliance (NDA) that includes Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has scored a sweeping victory in over 190 of the total 243 constituencies. In contrast, former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav’s son Tejashwi Yadav-lead Mahagathbandhan (MGB) that included his Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and The Indian National Congress Party (INC) have lost 40 seats versus their past status in the Assembly. Boisterous poll strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor not only lost his own election and his Jan Suraaj Party drew a blank. Chief Minister Nitish and NDA will form the new government and may well draw a total of 200 Legislators backing them. A landslide victory in Bihar as part of the Hindi belt in North India is a huge plus for the Modi government.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the single-largest party with 91 seats while Nitish’s Janata Dal (United) follows with 81 seats. At the BJP headquarters in Delhi, an ecstatic Modi called the victory a quote unquote “spectacular win with people’s unwavering trust”. In Hindi language he said quote “Jai Chhathi Maiya, yeh prachand jeet, atoot vishwas, Bihar ke logo ne bilkul garda uda diya hai” end quote. Modi also hit out squarely at the Opposition chastising them that the public has reposed its trust in the Election Commission of India. In several posts on X, Prime Minister Modi congratulated alliance partners, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Lok Janshakti Party Ram Vilas Paswan chief Chirag Paswan, HAM leader Jitan Ram Manjhi, and RLM president Upendra Kushwaha. Modi said quote “Even the Congress allies are beginning to understand that the Congress is drowning everyone in its negative politics. Congress is a liability.
Congress is a parasite that wants to make a comeback by swallowing the vote bank of its allies…” end quote. Nitish Kumar expressed heartfelt gratitude and thanks to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji for the support received from him, while bowing to him. The highlights of the results are:
