India Celebrates Baisakhi, Puthandu, Nabobarso & Bihu 2026 with Joy and Unity
14th April 2026 was marked with colourful native costume-wearing citizens celebrating their regional new year or a new summer crop across India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on Vice President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan and conveyed greetings on the special occasion of Puthandu, observed as Tamil New Year. Vice President Radhakrishnan paid obeisance at Sikh Gurudwara Rakab Ganj on the occasion of Baisakhi. Accompanying him was Delhi state’s new lieutenant governor, Ambassador Taranjit Singh Bakshi. The Sikh shrine is only a short distance from his official residence. Baisakhi, the festival of harvest, is celebrated in Punjab and parts of North India. In the northeastern state of Assam, people celebrated Bihu. In the eastern state of West Bengal, people marked the new year, called Nabobarsho. Across India, the mood was festive, as people exchanged greetings, shared desserts, sang and danced.
