India–U.S. Talks in Washington DC: Trade, Tech, Defense & Quad Cooperation Strengthened

During the three-day visit of Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to Washington, DC, India and the United States expanded cooperation across trade, defense, critical technologies and the Quad. Among the highlights was the launch of the India-US Trade Facilitation Portal to target the mutually agreed goal of US Dollars 500 billion in trade in the final Free Trade Agreement being negotiated. 

Misri and the Indian Ambassador to the USA, Vinay Kwatra, held top-level talks with Departments of State, Pentagon and Commerce. 

At the Pentagon, Misri met with Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment Mike Duffey, to deepen defense industrial cooperation, technology collaboration, and supply chain linkages. The talks build on goals outlined in the bilateral Major Defense Partnership framework signed last year. In talks with Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby, the focus was developments in the Indo-Pacific and West Asia. The defense engagements were aimed at growing industrial collaboration, technology transfer, and supply chain integration between the two countries.

Misri met with Under Secretaries Jeffrey Kessler and William Kimmitt to advance cooperation in commercial and critical technologies while also dwelling on strengthening resilient and trusted supply chains.

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visited Washington in February. After the US announced that FTA was on its way, bilateral talks and discussions on strategic geo-political agenda has picked up momentum.
