Former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant joins IndiGo |
Accomplished bureaucrat and until recently Prime Minister Narendra Modi government’s G20 Sherpa, Amitabh Kant has been hired by IndiGo. Kant finally hung up his boots serving the government after 45 years. He joined Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1980 and worked in various roles even as Secretary for over four decades. After retiring he was picked up as CEO of Niti Aayog, India’s planning body, and then as G20 Sherpa for leading India’s stand on global issues. On July 3, 2025, IndiGo appointed Amitabh Kant as a Non-Executive Director of the company. Amitabh Kant also issued a statement saying “IndiGo will open new markets for India and transform our airports into global hubs for connectivity and commerce. This will promote tourism, trade, and investment, allowing people, markets, and opportunities to connect across borders. I’m excited to contribute to IndiGo and India’s next chapter of growth”. Kant has been known for transformational ideas and programmes for India. He is widely respected in India and around the world including by the United Nations for stellar programmes he led at Niti Aayog.
