Modi hails RSS as world`s biggest NGO in 79th Independence Day speech |
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was vocal and uninhibited in his speech on the 79th Independence Day on 15th August 2025 as he laid out a vision of alignment of ideology, reforms, bold initiatives and clear goals for `Naya Bharat` aka New India. One strategic statement in Modi`s speech was the unhesitant mention that the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) is the world`s biggest non-governmental organization (NGO). RSS is the massive 100-year-old organization of millions of largely Hindu grassroots workers that backs Modi`s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The Indian Prime Minister addressed the nation from the Red Fort on the 79th Independence Day, marking his 12th consecutive address. This year`s theme is `Naya Bharat` with the vision to achieve `Viksit Bharat` by 2047, that is a developed nation status for India.
Modi said "This great festival of freedom is a festival of 140 crore resolutions". In saluting the brave soldiers especially after the recent `Operation Sindoor` to target terrorists in Pakistan, Modi laid out the ambitious goals for India with an unequivocal statement that "India has decided that it will not tolerate nuclear threats anymore, we won`t fall for any blackmail. Destruction inflicted by our armed forces in Pakistan was so widespread, new revelations are being made every day. After April 22 (Pahalgam attack), we gave armed forces a free hand to respond to terrorists".
He invoked self-reliance, he spoke with emphasis against dependence, protection of farmers and developing new and indigenous capabilities to secure the nation and its interests. He spoke of the bold initiatives taken, underway and those in the making. He invoked the youth to set up and expand a modern ecosystem across every sector for
national transformation.
He also talked of a great gift on Diwali 2025. A `next generation GST reform` and tax on common, individual requirement services would be reduced significantly, MSMEs would benefit and also help the economy. Another landmark scheme worth Rs 10 trillion called the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgar Yojana will provide Rs 15,000 as support to individuals who secure their first job in the private sector. This could generate 3.5 crore job opportunities, he said.
