Indian students prefer Australia over US, UK immigration hassles |
With a growing tightening of immigration laws and rules in both the United States and the United Kingdom, Indian students are opting for Australian universities. US and UK have tightened post-story work rules, making it difficult for foreign students to spend humungous amounts on education but not be able to work and earn back. Australia has been among the top choices for Indian students. Indians stand at number two in number of international student enrolments between 2003 and 2024. A record 139,038 students or 16% of all students in Australian universities were Indians in in 2024. Australian education institutions rank high globally, country has a good safety record and a a liberal post-study work system. Over the years, Australia has been liberal also in granting residency and citizenship to students with good track record, getting good jobs and turning entrepreneurs. The Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement also allows Indian students to stay up to four years after completing their degree to work in Australia. Australian Universities have been given permission to open campuses in India to offer higher education, leading students to a good and easy choice for post graduate learning in Australia.
