Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was received in Trinidad and Tobago not only with honour by Prime Minister Kamala Persad-Bissessar and her entire Cabinet of Ministers at the airport but also a touching Girmitiya welcome by the mostly Bhojpuri origin Indian Diaspora. Modi arrived in Trinidad and Tobago on 3rd July 2025 for a two-day official visit, marking the second leg of his ongoing tour. Prime Minister Modi responded with warm Indian motherland love for the PIOs in this Caribbean island nation. He addressed a huge gathering and said his counterpart Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar was “Bihar ki Beti” (daughter of Bihar), highlighting her ancestral roots in Bihar`s Buxar. He was emotional engaging with the significantly large Indian origin community in Port of Spain and said many had roots in Bihar. He applauded the strong cultural connection between the two nations. Modi was greeted with a traditional Bhojpuri Chautaal performance. Modi brought with him a replica of the Ram Mandir and holy water from the Sangam at the Maha Kumbh and the Sarayu River in Ayodhya as a gesture of respect and connection. Modi talked of the Bihari heritage of the Trinidadian Indian Diaspora saying Bihar had shown the way from democracy and education to diplomacy.
